How to make $4.37 at Walgreens

If any of you have not yet shopped at Walgreens, you have until Saturday for this deal. This might be a great way to start.

For the month of January, Walgreens has three free-after-rebate items: Orajel (up to $8.49), Revlon Matte makeup ($9.99), and Auto Expressions Vent Fresh Elite Air Freshener (up to $4.99). For this particular deal, do not go to the store. Go online to Walgreens.com and put one of each of these items in your cart. The Orajel is $9.49, and you will only get $8.49 back, but get it anyway.

The reason you need to get these online is that there are two coupon codes that are good until Jan. 31: Enter the code "HEALTH" to get $5 off any $20 online purchase. Enter the code "WEEKLYAD" to get free shipping on any orders above $25.

With one of each of these items in your cart, your total should come to $24.47. In order to get free shipping, you need $25. So I just added a bag of M&M's for Mary -- her favorite!

After taxes (6% here in Michigan) and the two online coupon codes, my total came to $21.45. BUT, after I submit the rebates, Walgreens will send me a check for $23.47 OR a gift card for $25.82 (because they give you a 10% bonus if you choose the gift card). Either way, I come out ahead.

Special note: Make sure you have the correct rebate items in your cart BEFORE you order!!

Walgreens February Freebies

Every month, Walgreens has a book in the front of their store with items you can purchase and get a rebate. For the month of February, there are a LOT of free-after-rebate items. Plus, after coupons and getting a 10% bonus by choosing to put your rebate on your gift card (for more details, click here), you can really make a lot of money next month. There is a limit of one on all of these products. Here are the free-after-rebate items, along with some coupons you can use.
  • Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer or Foundation @ $9.99
  • Revlon Creme Lip Gloss @ $9.99
  • Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves Shampoo, Conditioner, or Stylers 6.8-13oz @ up to $4.29
Use $1/1 coupon from 1/4 RP
  • Zucol ColdCare @ $7.99
    Use $2/1 printable coupon
  • ThermaCare Trial Size Neck, Shoulder & Wrist heat Wrap @ $2.49
  • Walgreens Multi-purpose No Rub Solution 4 oz. @ $1.99
So, for example, if I bought the Garnier Fructis for $3.99, and handed the cashier the $1 coupon, I'd pay the cashier $3.23 after 6% sales tax. Then, I'd go to walgreens.com and submit the receipt for a rebate -- make sure you ask for the rebate in the form of a gift card for the 10% bonus. In 2-3 weeks (or 4-6 weeks for your first time), my gift card would have $4.39 on it ($3.99 + 10% bonus). So Walgreens paid me to take the Garnier off their shelves!

If you get good at this, you will never have to pay another penny at Walgreens again! Special note: Walgreens will have a $5 off coupon from time-to-time. This is a great way to rack up money on your gift card. It's up to you whether you want to risk waiting for one or not. I waited this month, and it never came, so I'll have to see if the free-after-rebate items are still in stock.

If you don't have the 12/14 RP anymore, there are $1.50/2 coupons in this week's paper. It won't be as great a deal, but it's still a good deal.

Free Baby Food at Meijer

Beechnut baby food is on sale at Meijer this week for 4/$1. If you sign up for the Beechnut email newsletter, you get a coupon for $1/3 jars of baby food (to print the coupon twice, just hit the backspace bar after printing). This will get you 4 free jars of baby food per coupon!

The other great thing about this deal is that it is a upromise ecoupon item for January. So if you buy this item on your Meijer Community Rewards card, they will fund $1 into your college education plan! So not only do you get it for free, but they'll pay you a buck!

Rogaine, Herbal Essences, & Axe Shower Gel for 47 cents

This is how I plan to use my $5/$30 purchase coupon at CVS this weekend. Since not everyone got the same coupon, I can't give scenarios for how you can best use yours.
  • Buy Rogaine @ $19.99 -- Get $5 ECB's
    Use $15/1 printable coupon
  • Buy 2 Herbal Essence shampoos @ $2.99 -- Get $1 ECB's ea.
    Use 2 $1/1 coupons from 12/28 PG
  • Buy 1 Axe shower gel 12 oz. @ $5 -- Buy 2, get $3 ECB's
    Use $1.50/1 printable coupon

I have $7 in ECB's remaining. So after coupons and ECB's, the total cost will be 47 cents! Not free, but definitely not bad!

When I'm finished with that transaction, I might just take the $5 ECB's from the Rogaine and purchase Axe body spray 4 oz.. Mary absolutely loves the smell of it on me after I get out of the shower! The final cost will be free, and I will get the $3 ECB's from the Axe deal.

When all is said and done, I will end up with $5 in ECB's, rather than $7, which kind of stinks, but I needed the shower gel and body spray anyway, and 47 cents is certainly a good deal.

CVS coupons and preview

For those of you who have a CVS account, and have registered it online, check your email. You received a coupon of one kind or another. Mine was $5 off your $30 purchase this weekend. Yours is probably different. It might be for a different amount, or just for a free item.

Updated: I found a couple of free-after-rebate items at CVS next week:
  • Buy Rogaine @ $19.99 -- Get $5 ECB's
    Use $15/1 printable coupon
  • 24 hour allergy relief (the CVS brand of Claritin) 5 ct. @ $3.79 -- Get $3.79 ECB's

If you ever buy pop, or you are hosting a Super Bowl party, this one's also a great deal, but it's not free:

  • Buy $20 of Pepsi products, get $10 ECB's
    Aquafina 12 pk. 2/$6
    Gatorade 4/$5
    Lays 2/$6
    Pepsi 2-liters 4/$5
    Pepsi 12 packs 4/$12
    Pepsi 8 packs 5/$10
Stacy's Pita or bagel chips 2/$6
    Starbucks frappuchino 3/$5
    Tostitos 2/$6

After ECB's, it's like getting the Pepsi products for half-off! Not free, but not bad! I don't know how long it will take to ship, but you can request a $1/1 Pepsi One 12 pk by mail. Plus, if you buy 3 12-packs & 3 Frito Lay products, you can send in for $15 of coupons.

Free Suave Shampoo

Visit suave.com tomorrow, January 14, and you can sign up for a free bottle of shampoo. They will mail you a coupon. You may want to get to the website early, as there may be a limited supply that runs out quickly.

Even better -- Huggies for $1.56

I found an even better deal than the one I posted below when I was picking up the diapers for Kelly. Instead of buying 2 wipes for $3.69 and using $0.50/1 coupon, buy 2 Huggies bath or lotions for $3.29 and use the $1/1 coupon from the same insert. Do everything else the same as I posted below. Your total spent oop = $1.56 - $2.56, depending on whether you buy pullups or regular diapers.

Monday, January 12, 2009

Huggies for $3.36

Normally, I don't post about diapers, but Ken tells me they are really expensive, so I promised to let you know if I found any deals. This deal is at Rite Aid this week, and I found it on thethriftymama's blog.

Use 2 $0.50/1 Huggies Wipes coupons from 1/11 SS

You will spend $17.36 - $18.36 OOP, depending on the coupons, before these rebates. To submit these rebates, go to Rite Aid's rebate page, log in (or create an account), enter your receipt, and request your check. Note: Rite Aid only issues one SCR check per month.

Submit for $2 SCR for Huggies Jumbo, Goodnight, or Pullups (#29)
Submit for $2 SCR for Huggies Wipes (#30)
Submit for $10 SCR gift card for purchasing $25 of Kimberly Clark items (#48)

Your final cost = $3.36 - $4.36 for 2 packs of Diapers and 2 packs of wipes. I think this is a good deal, right?

Here's the free items at RiteAid this week:

Use $2.50/1 coupon from 1/4 SS
    Submit for $2 SCR (#121)

Use $2/1 coupon from 10/19 SS
  • Buy Reese's Whipps @ 2/$1
Use $1/2 coupon from 1/4 SS
Special note: If you want any of these coupons, please contact me ASAP, and I will mail them to you. Obviously, I have no need for diaper coupons.

Special note 2: Huggies is a upromise item this month. It's a $1.00 ecoupon that goes into your 529 plan or pays down your student loan. If you haven't signed up for upromise, do it!! They put money in your kids' college education accounts for items you were going to buy anyway. You can attach your CVS card and your Meijer grocery card to the account, so they know when you buy the upromise items.

144 maxi pads for 78 cents at CVS

Ahhhh, the things you do for love! Or is it for free stuff?

At CVS this week, there is a deal where you buy $20 of Johnson & Johnson products and get $10 ECB's. Stayfree maxi pads are on sale for 2/$9, and I bought 4 boxes. I used 2 BOGO coupons from this Sunday's Red Plum insert, and 2 $2/2 coupons from the 11/9 RP (Important! Hand the cashier the $2/2 coupons first!). So I got $18 worth of maxi pads for $5 ($18 of Stayfree pads - $2 off - $2 off - $4.50 BOGO - $4.50 BOGO). I handed the cashier $5 in ECB's, the 78 cents for sales tax, and sprinted out the door!

Since I already purchased bandaids for $3 earlier in the week (I paid for them with ECB's, not cash), I received $10 ECB's at the bottom of my receipt to spend next time! I now have $12 in ECB's -- enough to buy the Cottonelle toilet paper (20 rolls for $12.97, get $4 ECB's; I have a $0.50/1 coupon from this Sunday's paper) that I have been saving my ECB's for.

Ladies, you'll have to tell me whether $0.78 for 144 maxi pads is a good deal. I was just in it for the ECB's. Although I still haven't gotten over the stigma of carrying my wife's "lady products" when she's not with me, I must say it was even more embarrassing that I dropped all 4 boxes in the middle of the floor so everyone could stare at me!

Free Reese's Whipps at Walgreens

This week, Walgreens has Hershey's chocolate bars on sale for 2/$1 with the weekly in-ad coupon. In this Sunday's (Jan. 4) SS insert, there was a coupon for $1 off 2 Reese's Whipps. Enjoy!

How I was paid to shop at Walgreens!

I love getting paid to take products off their shelves! Today is a good lesson on why it's important to learn the rules about how to shop at Walgreens. If I had handed the cashier the coupons in the wrong order, it wouldn't have worked. But because I handed the coupons in the order I describe below, I was paid $0.01 to buy Garnier Shampoo and Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil! Here's what I did:

Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil 20 sq. ft.
Regularly priced $1.69
Handed cashier 2 coupons for $1.00 off from 11/16 SS
Handed cashier coupon from weekly flyer -- "Reynolds Wrap $0.99, limit 2"
So -- $0.99 for each aluminum foil minus $1 off coupon = $0.01 back!!

Garnier Fructis Shampoo 13 oz.
Regularly priced $2.99
Handed cashier coupon for $1.00 off from 1/4 RP
Handed cashier EasySaver coupon for $2.00 off (these are found at the front of every store!)
So -- $2.99 - $1.00 - $2.00 = $0.01 back!!

Electrasol gelpacs, 20 ct.
Sale priced at $3.49
Handed cashier coupon for $2.50 off from 1/4 SS
Will submit for rebate of $1.50 through Walgreens
So -- $3.49 - $2.50 - $1.50 = $0.51 back!!

If I handed the cashier the Walgreens coupons first, it wouldn't have let me do it. Walgreens won't let you take $1.00 off an item that is priced at $0.99. But if you take $1.00 off first, and then price it down to $0.99, it works!

The receipt shows I paid $1.47 after tax, but Walgreens will rebate me $1.65 for the Electrasol ($1.50 rebate + 10% on gift card, read this link for more details), so altogether, I will get paid $0.18 to take these products off their shelves!!

Sorry, this deal isn't available to my family members in Texas! But it's available in Michigan and Illinois! Buy a 6-pack of Becks beer, and then fill out this rebate form good for up to $9! Hurry, because the beer must be purchased by January 5!

$10 coupon at American Eagle

Here's a link to $10 off your purchase at American Eagle, with no minimum purchase. Hurry, because it has to be used by January 5th. Mary hasn't been feeling well lately, so maybe I'll surprise her with a t-shirt or necklace or something small like that!
Update: Mary and I went to AE on Sunday. They had lip gloss on sale for 2/$10. We bought two lip glosses and walked out without paying anything! No sales taxes, nothing! The cashier was a little astounded, to say the least!

Free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream & Totinos Pizza Rolls

Here's a coupon for $3 off 1 Ben & Jerry's ice cream. They often go on sale for less than $3, so you could get a free one!
Update: Apparently, this already expired. I hope you printed it off before it did. If not, give me a call. Also, this is going on sale for $3 at Walgreens on Sunday.

And another coupon for $1 off 1 Totinos Pizza Rolls. Again, they often go on sale for less than $1.

Free Swagbuck Code

I think this one is for today only. Log into your swagbucks account, click on your swagbucks, and enter the code "NewYear2009".

Mary and I have already received one $5 Starbucks giftcard (cost=50 swagbucks), and we're extremely close to another one!
